One cone of gold-leaf ice cream from Kanazawa!

Kanazawa Series: Gold-Leaf Ice Cream

Hi everyone! This post is the beginning of my Kanazawa Series; each week I’ll post about something fun to do in Kanazawa. Look forward to exciting things!

Kanazawa is known for gold. Alllll the gold. Gold everything. So it stands to reason that his would extend to food as well — like gold-leaf ice cream!

This tasty treat can be found at multiple shops around Kanazawa, but my friends and I got ours at Hakuichi Higashiyama, a souvenir shop located in the Higashi Chaya District. They have tons of different trinkets and omiyage for anyone you could ever be shopping for, but we went with eyes just for the ice cream.

Because it was October when we went, the ice cream came with an assortment of Halloween sprinkles on top! One cone was ¥800, but we figured it was worth it. When else would we be able to try ice cream with gold leaf??

After getting our ice cream, we were shown to the third floor where there was extra seating available. We took pictures of our ice cream, then dug in.

It was REALLY good! I’m not usually a big fan of plain vanilla ice cream, but it must’ve been made with full fat or something because it was tasty. We actually contemplated getting another one each just for the ice cream, it was THAT good. I was glad to know that the expensive price meant that we got good ice cream as well, not just the gold leaf.

Definitely worth it!
